"Net zero" pledge
Leicestershire County Council is continuing to respond in the fight against climate change. The Council has joined the UK100 coalition of the most ambitious local leaders in the UK and pledged to reach a revised target of achieving "net zero" across the county by 2045. This stretched current ambitions to drastically cut emissions in order to see a lasting environmental impact.

Along with our waste partners Serco, we have agreed our waste collection schedule for the Christmas period, starting on Monday December 21 and ending on Monday January 4, 2021.

The County Council is ready to tackle winter. The gritters went out for the first time this season early in November. The Council has also taken delivery of salt, looking to build up levels to more than 18,000 tonnes. If freezing temperatures are forecast the gritters treat major roads and key routes, which equate 47% of the county's road network.

Additional restrictions have been announced today for Charnwood in response to a continued high number of coronavirus cases in the borough.
