Volunteer Litter Picking
We have received several enquiries regarding what to do with bags of litter that have been litter picked by volunteers. We have contacted Charnwood Borough Council and they have given the following advice...
Charnwood Borough Council can supply bags for litter picking and arrange for their collection once full from either the public highway or your property, whichever is easiest.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01509 634 563 with location information in advance of your litter pick.
Their advice to individuals/groups carrying out litter picks is always to remain safe and seen and ensure suitable clothing and footwear is worn.
Please do not litter pick any A roads such as the A6 or A46 or any road (especially country lanes between Villages) that have either narrow or no verges as these roads are often 60mph (or above) and are dangerous. Please also avoid watercourses, ditches, embankments, private land including
parkland and woods, Parish Council owned land or open countryside as these are areas that are not required to be attended to through our street cleaning contract with Serco.
They also advise that any found needles, asbestos and other hazardous material is not collected; instead it should be noted and reported to Charnwood Borough Council
directly by calling 01509 634 563 to ensure its safe removal.
At the moment, it is not recommended working in groups outside of your household or support bubble until Covid-19 restrictions ease.
